## Step 1: Create Your CSV


The first step is to create your CSV file using Excel or Google Sheet.
This includes adding the columns you want to use in your template, such as the recipient's name, and some additional variables. Once you have added the columns, fill in the data for each row.

In order to send bulk messages with Hivoe, the only constraint is the presence of the `handle` column.

The handle, represents the Twitter nickname of the user you want to send the message to.

## Step 2: Import the CSV File


Once you have created and filled your CSV file, the next step is to import the CSV file into Hivoe. 

Download the file from Excel or Google Sheet selecting CSV as the file format.


- Log in into [hivoe.com](http://www.hivoe.com/)
- Go to the “Bulk DMs” section
- Select “Import from CSV”
- Select the downloaded CSV file from your file system


Once the CSV file has been selected, you’ll see a preview of the content, like:

The interface will show you the number of rows, and a preview of the content.
You’re ready to click on `Upload` 

At this point, the users you included in the CSV file, are added to the list of targeted users.

By clicking on a user name, you open the user details.
The variables defined in the CSV file have been created and associated with the correct user.

## Step 3: Send the Customized Messages


Once the CSV file has been imported, the last step is to write the message and send it.


You can use the custom variables in the text of the message.
The syntax to include a variable is `{{variableName}}` so for instance, to dynamically include the name of the user, the message must include `{{name}}` 

Here’s an example of a message that makes use of the variables used in this article.

## Configure the automation scenario

Click on `Add` and give a name to your webhook, like `Hivoe webhook`. 
Save the URL of the webhook, and click on `Run once`.

Access to [Hivoe](https://hivoe.com/?ref=logsnag_docs) go to the section [Integrations](https://hivoe.com/integrations?ref=logsnag_docs) and create a new one. 
In the webhook field, insert the URL that you copied from Make. 
Finally, click on `Send test event`.

Hivoe will call the webhook of Make with a fake event, so that Make knows which data is expected. 
Now you can return to Make, where we map the event received from Hivoe, to the request Make performs towards LogSnag. 

Go to Make, and add a new element by clicking on the right side of the Webhooks circle. 
Filter the list on `HTTP`, and select `Make a request`.

These are the values to provide:

- URL: `https://api.logsnag.com/v1/log`
- Method: `POST`
- Headers:
 - Name: `Authorization`

- Don’t try to sell new followers anything in your welcome DM. Period.

- The most successful direct messages I’ve tried do not have any links. These are seen as more trustworthy and can open the door to further communication.
- The second most successful direct messages I’ve used are ones that simply link to Twitter threads that my new followers would be interested in. If you know that you have an audience following you for development advice, then your latest thread with 10+ great tips for new developers might be well received.
- Check your direct messages regularly and respond to them when necessary. This is a huge trust-builder and will lead to more engagement in the future.

**One point to consider:**
Sometimes, you might get a huge influx of followers, thus getting multiple responses. Do not get overwhelmed. Take your time, breath, and start responding individually. No one’s keeping a gun to your head asking you to respond.
Try to delete the DMs where you don’t get the response from time to time because they clutter your inbox.

How to automate a Twitter Direct Message for new followers


# Why Paddle?

Every SaaS needs to collect recurrent payments from their customers. At hivoe I had the same need.

I opted for Paddle because they act as a [Merchant of Records](https://paddle.com/blog/what-is-merchant-of-record).

It means that they collect sales tax, ensure payment card industry compliance, and honor refunds and chargebacks.

# Get started

First of all, you need to create a Paddle account on paddle.com. You need to declare your domain in the web console, and it takes a few weeks to be approved by the Paddle team.

They go through a [manual verification process](https://paddle.com/help/start/account-verification#what-is-domain-approval). My recommendation is to have a landing page and a product to sell.

When the approval is received, you're ready to configure your checkout! 🛒

# Checkout configuration

The configuration is done using the Paddle web console:

- Customize your brand color
- Define the payment methods
- Select _Include taxes in the price_ or not

Next, you need to define your **Catalog**.

You can configure a single product catalog (ebook, course, etc) or a subscription plan, with a recurrent payment, and eventually a free trial period.

That's perfect for your SaaS product, right? 😉

Finally you're ready to integrate the real checkout!

- Include the paddle JavaScript bundle directly from their CDN
- Configure the SDK with _your vendor ID_
- Add the anchor tag with the `data-product` attribute

Obviously, you need to know which subscription plan belongs to a logged in user.

To do that, create a Webhook (a server side endpoint) that Paddle calls every time an event happens.

The most important events are:

- Subscription created
- Subscription updated
- Subscription cancelled
- Payment failed

Save the useful information in your database, linked to the correct user.

You'll receive information like the _update payment method url_ and the _cancell subscription url_.

Provide those URLs to your customers in your SaaS product ⛑ so that they can manage their subscription easily.
